Sicko-Fan-Tics

Although the web is an impersonal place, many folks feel as though they have connected with someone because they have read something on their PC screen. Indeed, dating agencies, chat rooms etc. all encourage this behaviour in users. Is it so strange therefore that people should consider themselves part of a "family" because they read a blog? YES !! For Gods Sake, People, it's not real. Your family are people you share real life experiences with, not some words on a screen. The current explosion in internet access and use is bringing about a new phenomenon whereby people are losing perspective on what's real and what's in cyber space. Hence we see thousands of people logging into a memorial web site ( http://www.myspace.com/loving_memory_anna ) for some American teenager that was killed and pouring their cyber hearts out in an attempt to show that, although they never knew the girl involved, they are suffering grief. More grief than everyone else that's posted. Because that's what it's all about. Showing that you care more than everyone else does. The phrase "Mourning Sickness" sums it up quite nicely. Which leads us neatly onto the comments on the WS blog. If you suffer from diabetes then you would be best avoiding them because they contain such sickly sweet mush that your teeth crinkle just to read them, especially as WS now censors any comments that don't toe the party line. What (supposedly) adult people would read someones blog and then post comments like; "I'm glad that your beautiful mind is saved." "How great are you?...really great" "You are at the center and we are your friends visiting you in your virtual home" "Yours is a sweet soul" It's scary that these people have access to electricity, never mind the internet!! If this is a realistic cross section of society then I'm on the worng planet.

I'm hoping she will donate all proceeds to homeless charities for those who lack the gift of contrived metaphors and tortuous imagery to drag themselves out of the gutter.

That's another way of putting it!

If she bought a house on the stolen paypal donations.... she could get a brass plaque made and call it "laneway"...

It's the whole dishonesty of it that gets ya.

Plus the morons that just lap it all up.

She's laughing all the way to the bank.

Wow, how bored are you?

wanderingScribe said...

Not bored.
Just incredulous that so many people have been taken in by this transparent ploy to get a book deal.

Everything I have stated has been posted on Anyas blohg herself.
I have merely timeshifted the details so you can see how things don't quite add up.

Of course, if you are "a believer" then cold hard facts won't matter, just like trying to convert religious zealots is a waste of time.

Anonymous said...

Do you lay awake at night, wishing you thought of it first? What's the big deal? True or not, it's a great story..

If people chose to give this woman their money WITHOUT knowing if she is really homeless, than it's THEIR choice.

Again, what's it to you?

wanderingScribe said...

Of course, you're right.
We should all ignore the con artists, flim flam men, shysters, and tricksters in the world.
After all, what harm are they doing?

Except maybe pretending to be something they are not in order to gain from it.

Maybe...
But if you are freely admitting how gullible you (and the legion of "true believers") are then I wonder if I might put a begging, sorry, paypal button on my site in order to get something for nothing.

After all, where's the harm?

Now I know how Peeping Tom felt when he declared that Lady Godiva was naked but everyone else was in denial.

It's right there in front of you, folks !!

Anonymous said...

Who said I believed? Like I said it's a great story.. It's sad that you've gone to all this trouble to point out something in the world that is near meaningless with so many other issues in the world.

Things you could "Expose":

What about the situation in Da far?
In Sudan?
The war in Iraq?

This would be something I would think you could do a blog on. Something that would actually have meaning and help people.

But, I guess this is worth taking up your time, right?

When the Yorkshire Ripper was around, Police Officers that stopped motorists were often goaded with comments like;
"Shouldn't you be catching the ripper instead of chasing motorists!".

I can't do anything about other countries problems but I can highlight a con artist here.
But thanks for trying to divert attention from the con artist.
I'm sure she'd appreciate the smoke screen.

We all do what we can to make this world a better place.
This is my bit.

You can't run from Karma. :)

ANOTHER LOOSE END NEVER FOLLOWED UP FROM A POST A FEW WEEKS AGO..........................and in the midst of it I took down the Paypal button. I might also make another announcement about that soon, because I may be getting a paid position, and if I do I have decided that the best thing to do is to refund the Paypal money. Not because I feel guilty about it

The more you look over her blog, the more discrepancies you see.
Once people pointed out that getting money from Paypal ( several thousand pounds by her own account) and not declaring it to the DSS whilst on benefits was illegal, there was a sudden change of tack with the money supposedly being given back to the donators or sent on to another charity.

But hadn't it already been used for a deposit and advance rent on a place to live?

To be a good liar you have to have a good memory.
Even though she has the blog to remind herself of the fabrications spun in the name of homelessness (or is it "unpublished authorness"?, I always get those two mixed up), she still continues to make simple mistakes.

And for a supposedly educated woman too.
Shocking.

Anonymous said...

On the subject of a good lie....... way way way back in the early stuff she would say something like....."I'm sat in my car talking to the mushrooms" or some such crap. Which to me indicates that the text is being written longhand or on a laptop and then copied into the blog.... Well if you were blogging on an ad hoc basis in cyber cafes you would'nt fanny about in this fashion....... So it was a book deal from day one..... What a piss poor state of affairs.

I've tipped off BBC Online, Private Eye and several newspapers.

Trees absorb pain, and some of these will one day be felled and made into paper, and I have this feeling that if I stare really hard into those empty sheets of white paper once I begin to write, I'll probably see my story already there, like a watermark on their blank surfaces.

That's the whole point.
It was just a story manufactured to generate interest in a book deal. whereas when you go into a bookstore, you are looking for a book.
When you look at a blog from a supposed homeless person, you aren't entering that situation in the same frame of mind.
Therefore you are being decieved.

Well, some people were.

And some people saw it for what it was and continues to be but the "believers" won't have it any other way.

I think people have been like this before the whole internet revolution.

Remember Diana, "Queen of Hearts"?? People were crying and wailing uncontrollably in the streets - even though they had never met the woman, and were only going by what they had been spoon-fed by the media. They had no idea what she was like, etc!! It does seem like a competition to see who has the most compassion and "niceness" really.

And the ones who really like to enforce their "niceness" and "purity of heart" on others, are usually the most hypocritical and vicious...like devout Christians, for example.

Penguin Trauma said...

Aaaarrgghh! Just realised I've shot myself in the foot there!!!

My comment "People were crying and wailing uncontrollably in the streets - even though they had never met the woman, and were only going by what they had been spoon-fed by the media" - doh!

Maybe the reality is that people didn't cry very much or at all and that the media had spoon-fed us that concept, in itself!!

Now I can't decide which one is more accurate.

Jeeez.... I leave that for the rest of yous to debate :-)

I do believe that the press are responsible for a lot of stirring things up.
How many times do you see headlines such as "Kid Killed - Community in shock"
Hang on a mo.
Community in shock?
Take a look round that particular community.
Would you see every single person walking round ashen faced and numb with grief?
No.
The simple fact is that it's yet another GASP SHOCK LOOK AT ME headline designed to sensationalise an incident and sell papers.
But people absorb these headlines until they become commonplace. And pretty soon, someone getting killed without the relevant "OH MY GOD" headline isn't newsworthy.
So therefore when something slightly bigger happens, the papers have to "up the stakes" to grab the attention of the newspaper buying public.
MAN IN BICYCLE CARNAGE HORROR ON B2514 NEAR PUDDINGTON-IN-THE-MARSH

Likewise, an outpouring of grief or adulation must be expressed in greater terms than others to "prove" you are experiencing "more" and are more worthy.
1st poster: "I'll miss her"
2nd poster: "She'll always be in my heart".
3rd poster: "I don't know how I'll be able to continue without her in my life"
4th poster: "I can't go on living without her, I feel like topping myself".
5th poster: thinks to themselves Shit, I can't top that but I've got to try as a simple "I'll miss her" won't be sufficient to show how much I care.
And so it goes on.

Once you have bought into this way of thinking, you have to maintain it or lose face. Which is pretty much what has happened with Anyas blog where some initial words of encouragement have had to be "topped" by following posters.
Before you know it, she is being deified as a goddess of literature and compared to people like J.K. Rowling (who has amassed several hundred million pounds from her talent).
Think about it folks.
Someone who has never had a book published, never written a book and whose only readership so far is a few hundred people on the internet is being compared with a multi million selling author !!!

You can still have some fun on the WS site... what i've been doing is post some sugary bollocks under some daft name like Captain Cobblers for example........ i'll post nice stuff for a week or so... the usual crap...."you are an inspiration" that sort of shite...... she/he whover is lulled into a sense of false security... then Captain Cobblers will turn nasty and post something that dares to question her story and surprise surprise all the captain cobblers posts come off.... so shes having to go through and delete all my entries..... Whilst this is going on I hope she get bored and forgets blogging/conning altogether....... why don't we all get together and swamp the blog with loads and loads of sickly sweet bullshit which she's not sure is real or not.....? Many many of the posts are from me anyway..... and shes falling for lots of them...

Anonymous said...

Let me guess? You sit at home, all day, cause u live on welfare, you're too stupid to have a job, and too nitter for anyone to ever employ you. You spend most of youyr time surfing the free porn clips, trying to get off on the ten seconds of titilation they offer.

You're pissed off, cause you're fat and lazy and live on cheeseburgers, and you've never been off that fat ass long enough to try and get a job, so now your bitter, "Ohhh WS is a fraud, I know, cause I know everything". You don't know shit. You're an idiot!

A BBC reporter went and met the woman, verifed his story before he printed so he didn't come off looking like an idiot! But to bitter shit for brains like you, thats not enough. You're just sick cause your own stupidity left you living in the shithouse of society and want someone to blame. THen along comes this woman who's had a far harder life than you, who really had a shitstorm rain on her, and even she can get herself out of it, but you are still sitting around in sweaty track pants eating grease burgers all day.

Aww poor you. In the words of your alter ego: "You're a cunt"

I detest the way Wandering Scribe writes and she really believes her own hype there's no self doubt or crticism there at all.

If it's a true story - well good on her - but I wouldn't want to spend time in her company.

If it's fabricated then it's exploitative and in very bad taste.

However if Wandering Scribe's book-in-waiting is a study of the blogging phenomenon, I will doff my cap to her brilliance.

You've never been in a library at 1104 at night? I'm shocked, appaled and saddened. Are you calling the special one a fibber...?

If I had a book deal and was breaking into libraries to access their computers at night (cos that's what she must be doing so dedicated to her art is she) I'd be writing like a bastard to get my book finished not moderating comments on my blog....

The Blogger clock is all over the place - an acknowledged problem - so those posting times mean nothing. Anyways, some London academic libraries are open 24 hours now.

Anonymous said...

She refers to libraries closing in previous posts though. I hope the novel brushes up these inconsistencies. In fact if she read her detractors' blogs she could really improve her book.

Third Eye - I'll give you a fiver but it's for brie and dates only which I understand really the numb the pain of homeless much better than crack and Special Brew.

Sure, some libraries close others open 24 hours. Lots extend opening hours around exam time.

Similarly some people are really homeless and others aren't.

I never thought this sounded genuine although the BBC interview obviously gave it some credibility.
Why would anyone turn down a house, a job? It's written very .... "poor me".

Author moderated comments, then she says she doesn't read comments, just emails. So why moderate comments then?
Makes no sense.

Hope she gets blown by a TV crew. Of course she'd sell her story to some newspaper then.

wanderingScribe said...

The more you dig below the surface and ignore the Mills & Boon waffle, the more the "story" falls apart.
Regular readers should by now be fully aware that her latest ploy is giving out teasers.
You know, "something great and fantastic migth be happening, can't say anymore just yet".

Why?
Why can't she say more?
Is it because she is forbidden by law?
Or is it yet another cynical ploy to get even more comments by her legion of brain dead fans along the lines of "Ohhh please tell us more, hope it's fantastic blah de blah blah ad nauseum...."

The longer it goes on, the more incredulous I get that these muppets don't see the wood for the trees.

Ahh well. If I have opened just a few peoples eyes to the cynical manipulative postings of wanderingscribe in her attempt to get a book deal then my efforts are not in vain.

Anonymous said...

A great expose. Will any of this be in the latest Private Eye? Should be.
Just a thought.....where does she park her car all day and how does she avoid London's traffic wardens? I can never find a space during the day. She can't leave her Rover in the "laneway" all day.
maybe she camoflages it with shit and tampons.
Oh, and to the bore who earlier asked why we don't blog on Darfur and other terrible happenings in the world, many of us do just that but this is just a little diversion.
Darfur is all about oil. That is why the poor people are being driven from their villages. Soon big oil will move in.
Israel is behind all the carbombs in Iraq and is pushing America to bomb the shite out of Iran.
Right, you bunch of cunts, that's enough about world affairs.
Hugs and kisses xxx
